Who is Mrs. Cowan?
Education
My story began in Memphis, Tennessee: the home of the blues, Muddy's Bake Shop (yum), and those who are closest to my heart. Memphis is where I launched my educational journey, where the seeds to the teaching profession were deeply planted and rooted. I completed my primary and secondary education in the Memphis City Schools system under the tutelage of several, extraordinary educators and teacher-leaders who fueled my desire to follow in their footsteps. In my quest to become an educator, I obtained my post-secondary education at the University of Memphis, where I received my B.A. in English. Shortly thereafter, I completed my graduate studies at Christian Brothers University and earned a master's degree in education.
Family
It was in this great city where I met my husband. We have two children, Aaron and Alexis.
Career
I joined the Memphis City Schools family in 2000. In my professional career, I've taught a wide range of subjects and have had the distinct pleasure of working with students of all ages and backgrounds. I began my career teaching ninth and tenth grade English. Since making the transition to elementary, I've had the privilege of working with students in kindergarten, fifth, and sixth grade.
Hobbies
My current hobbies include designing interior spaces (modern, mid-century, with a touch of traditional), reading (historical fiction is my favorite), listening to various genres of music (former band member and show choir girl here), and traveling to exciting places.
I can't wait to meet each of you and hear your personal stories!
